In a recent report, The Athletic mentioned that Aston Villa are close to signing Everton midfielder Amadou Onana this offseason. There is news that Villa will introduce talented Belgian players during this summer’s transfer period.

Onana’s stellar performance in the Premier League

Onana put in a series of impressive performances at the heart of Everton’s midfield. The Belgian prodigy made 37 appearances in all competitions for the Toffees last season, scoring three goals and providing one assist.

The 22-year-old averaged 2.4 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 1.0 clearances, 1.0 shots and 0.6 key passes per game in the Premier League and performed relatively well in the midfield. In England’s First Division he has a pass completion rate of 84.9% (data from whoscored) and he even looks clean when passing the ball through midfield.

Onana’s current contract at Goodison Park expires in the summer of 2027, which could make it difficult for Villa to sign him on the cheap later this year.

Is Onana a good signing for Aston Villa boss Unai Emery?

Onana loves to tackle, is able to grasp the timing of challenges well, and made several important interceptions for the team in the midfield. He usually clears danger when needed and can poison shots from long range.

The Belgian genius can even create some quality plays for those around him in the opposition half. He is also an accurate passer of the ball and can make some powerful runs with the ball from midfield.

Onana will add further quality and depth to Aston Villa manager Unai Emery’s midfield department. He has the ability to challenge for a regular first-team spot at Villa Park next season.

Furthermore, Onana might even help Villa challenge on all fronts in the coming years. The 22-year-old Belgian midfield ace has a bright future ahead of him, making him a good signing for the West Midlands club before the end of the transfer window. Onana has accumulated enough experience in the Premier League and will play an important role in Aston Villa in the future.
