Aston Villa still trying to terminate Philippe Coutinho’s contract

The midfielder’s career has been on the decline since leaving Liverpool in 2018 and many believe his move to Villa in January 2022 will help revive his career after a difficult spell at Barcelona career.

However, this proved to be another failed move as the Brazilian now looks set to leave Villa Park and return to his home country ahead of the 2024/2025 season. The 32-year-old was not in Emery’s plans at the Premier League club, having spent last season on loan at Qatari side Duhail.

Coutinho scored seven goals and provided three assists in 22 games for Cardiff, but it was not enough to convince the Villa coach to keep him for next season.

According to “Football Insider”, although Coutinho’s contract is valid until 2026, negotiations are still ongoing to terminate the contract this summer. Tinho earns £135,000-a-week at the English club and that will also make room for new signings.

Philippe Coutinho set to return to Brazil this summer

The midfielder is expected to return to his native Brazil once Aston Villa and Coutinho reach an agreement on his contract, with Vasco da Gama interested in their former player. However, it’s not over yet as the 32-year-old plots his next move.

After a difficult few years in his career, Coutinho deserves to play at a club that makes him happy and many would like to see him move back home during the current transfer window.

Other clubs may be interested once his contract at Villa is cancelled, as the coming weeks will be busy for the former Liverpool star.
