Everton announced their first signing of the summer on Saturday, acquiring Tim Irogbunam from Aston Villa.

The official fee has not been revealed, but Fabrizio Romano reported it to be £9 million.

Ilogbunam, who signed a three-year deal, told Everton’s official website: “I’m absolutely delighted. Everton is a fantastic club, a big club and I’m really happy to join and I can’t wait Want to start…this is a transfer I don’t want to miss.

He continued: “When I went to Goodison as an opposition player, I saw the look of the Everton fans. You can tell immediately what the atmosphere is like – they always support the team. I will work hard for them.” .

Manager Sean Dyche added: “We are delighted to have added Tim to our midfield options. He is a young player who is still learning and developing but clearly has many of the qualities we want on the pitch. .

Who is Tim Irogbunam?

Ilogbunam, 20, joined Aston Villa’s academy in 2021 from West Midlands rivals West Bromwich Albion.

The majority of his senior appearances have come with QPR, making 32 appearances in the EFL Championship during a loan spell at QPR in the 2022/23 season.

He made 19 appearances for Villa, 15 of them last season, totaling 300 minutes, with two starts coming against Ajax in the Europa League and Manchester City in the Premier League.

He saw more games in the second half of the season as Villa were depleted of midfield options.

Irogbunam’s arrival on Merseyside could be a sign that the Blues are preparing for life after Amadou Onana, who plays in a similar position.

Impact of Profitability and Sustainability Rules

According to reports from Patrick Boylan and Jacob Tanswell in The Athletic , the signing is particularly interesting given that Lewis Dobbin is joining Villa from Everton.

Both the Toffees and Villa are reportedly on the verge of breaching profitability and sustainability rules, so we may see these unofficial swap deals progress over the next few years as the two clubs agree An agreement may be beneficial to both parties.
