Enna Valencia was given a straight red card in the 22nd minute of Ecuador’s Copa America opener against Venezuela at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on Saturday afternoon.

Valencia, who play for West Ham United and Everton in the Premier League, fought for the ball with a Venezuelan player. However, the veteran striker did not touch the ball. Instead, his bat struck the area near his opponent’s chest.

After a VAR review, Valencia was given a straight red card instead of a yellow card, and Ecuador played with 10 men for the remainder of the game.
