Joshua Kimmich could leave Bayern Munich

28 June 2024 - 1:39 am

According to a report from Sports Illustrated reporters Christian Falk and Tobi Altschäffl, Joshua Kimmich is no longer part of Bayern Munich’s midfield plans, which could lead to his departure this summer:

Joshua Kimmich is not part of the club’s midfield plans for next season. The trend is towards separation.

Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg backed Bild’s report and released some additional background information. Plettenberg also said that Kimmich’s target is Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Real Madrid or Barcelona:

▫️Kimmich, captain and regular starter, could leave the club with the right offer. Bayern has no plans to extend contract beyond 2025

▫️Vincent Kompany’s other plans for midfield. Joao Palhinha, still a dream target!

The distance between Kimmich/Bayern is getting closer. Now or next year at the latest. Kimmich is ready to enter the final year of his contract. He only wants to join Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Real Madrid or Barcelona.

BFW analysis

The reports provide some leeway for Kimmich to stay at right-back at Bayern Munich, but it’s unclear whether he wants to hold on to the position long-term.

This isn’t the first time reports have emerged that Kimmich’s future in Bavaria is in jeopardy. Rumors about Kimmich’s exit had existed before Kompany took over, but they have become more persistent since the former Burnley boss was appointed manager. It’s just that Bayern Munich’s new regime doesn’t seem as obsessed with Kimmich as the previous front group.

What has become clear is that if Kimmich wants to play in midfield, he probably won’t be at Bayern Munich. So, yes, in the long run, when it comes to Kimmich extending his contract with Bayern Munich, things are looking bad…really bad.

Kimmich could stay for next season, or worse, play another year and leave for free. The Bayern Munich management seems intent on leaving many experienced leaders off the roster. Will this strategy work… or will this new regime prove to be another misstep for the club as it seeks to get back on track?
