Liverpool could sign four young centre-backs as eventual replacements for Virgil van Dijk

Liverpool star centre-back Virgil van Dijk is having an outstanding bounce-back season in the Premier League, shining brighter than any other centre-back in England’s top flight and arguably outperforming all in Europe.

It’s a level Van Dijk is used to, with his own bounce-back season overlapping with Liverpool’s return to Premier League title contention in 2023/24.

Van Dijk continued to impress last summer with the Netherlands, who reached the semi-finals of Euro 2024 before losing to England thanks to Aston Villa superstar forward Ollie Watkin Ollie Watkins’ winning goal.

At 33, Van Dijk is far from done and still has plenty of energy left to contribute for Liverpool, but even so, he may only have a few years left to perform at an elite level.

Liverpool are considering a replacement for Virgil van Dijk this summer and are looking for reasonable deals for quality young centre-backs in the 2024 summer transfer market.

Liverpool are considering long-term transfer target Sporting CP standout Goncalo Inacio, who has a €60m release clause, according to a report from Caught Offside’s Mark Brus.

But Liverpool believe they can negotiate Inacio below that price, especially since the 22-year-old defender’s prospects appear to have cooled a bit.

Currently, Caught Offside says Liverpool are “clear favorites” to sign Inacio, ahead of other top Premier League clubs including rivals Manchester United and Arsenal.

But Inacio isn’t the only talent Liverpool have their eye on. The Reds are reportedly eyeing Eintracht Frankfurt’s underrated Willem Pacho, Crystal Palace’s England international Mark Gay and Nice’s hotshot Jean-Clair Todibo.

It’s hard to go wrong with any of these four talented players. One of the most established players in the Premier League, Guerhy enjoyed another fine but underrated season at Crystal Palace before dominating the European Cup with the Three Lions.

Todibo is favored by teams such as West Ham United and Juventus. He has been the top central defender in Ligue 1 for many years. At the age of 24, he brought a very high football IQ and first-class ball control skills.
