Tuttosport claimed in a recent report that Newcastle United are set to launch a three-game race for Juventus defender Dean Huizen this summer. The Magpies are believed to face competition from Borussia Dortmund and Girona for the Spanish centre-back this transfer window.

Huizen’s impressive performances in Italian football

Hewitson enjoyed a good spell on loan at Roma last season, catching the eye at times in defence. The 19-year-old made 14 appearances for the Italian side last season, scoring several goals and providing one assist in all competitions.

The Amsterdam-born talent mostly comes off the bench but averages 0.8 tackles and 2.0 clearances per game in Serie A. Excellent, his pass success rate in the first half was 87.1% Italian football level (statistics from whoscored).

His current contract with his parent club Juventus will expire in the summer of 2028.

Is Huijsen a good fit for Newcastle United?

Huizen can make life difficult for opposing attackers with a few solid tackles. He senses danger well and doesn’t mind clearing it when his opponents attack.

The 1.97m Spanish youngster can use his physical strength to win his fair share of 50-50 aerial duels. However, he is still quite inexperienced at the highest level and if Newcastle can find a way to bring him in this off-season, he will need time to adapt to life at St James’ Park.

Huizen will add more bite and power to Eddie Howe’s defensive department. He’s good enough to be a decent rotation player in Newcastle’s matchday squad for the next few seasons. However, the Magpies will have to be patient with his progress before they can get the most out of him.

Huijsen, 19, has a bright future ahead of him and would be perfect for the Tyneside club’s needs in the long term.
