Real Madrid confirm next club captain as Nacho Fernandez prepares to leave for Saudi Arabia

On Saturday, it was revealed that Nacho Fernandez has decided to leave Real Madrid when his contract expires at the end of this month. The 34-year-old has agreed a deal with newly-promoted Saudi Professional League side Al-Qadsiah to join them once his Euro 2024 campaign ends.

Nacho is currently the club captain, a role he will of course relinquish once he leaves. Miguel Angel Diaz has revealed Real Madrid’s next captain, who will wear the armband and will be Luka Modric. He will serve as first captain, followed by right-backs Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez.

Real Madrid Captain’s Medal 24/25:

1️⃣Modric
2️⃣ Carvajal
3️⃣ Lucas Vazquez
4️⃣Valverde
5️⃣ Courtois
6️⃣Vinicius

Federico Valverde will be next, followed by Thibaut Courtois and Vinicius Junior. Those are likely to move up one spot again next summer, with Modric expected to retire in 2025.

For Modric to be captain of Real Madrid would be a huge honor and one he deserves after 12 years at the club. He hopes to lead Real Madrid to win many titles next season, just like Nacho in the 2023-24 season, which is likely to be his only season wearing the captain’s armband.
