Tottenham face stiff competition for the Ligue 1 striker

In a recent report, I claimed that Tottenham would face stiff competition for Lille striker Jonathan David this summer. It is understood Tottenham will have to compete with Manchester United, West Ham United and Aston Villa for the Canadian striker in the off-season.

David’s impressive statistics in French football

David has enjoyed a productive season with the French club, producing some impressive performances in the final third. The 24-year-old played 47 times for Lille last season, scoring 26 times and providing 9 assists on all fronts.

The Canadian talent averaged 2.3 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per 90 minutes in Ligue 1, leading the team relatively well. The passing down the field was even neat.

His current contract at Lille expires at the end of next season, which could give Spurs the opportunity to bring him in on the cheap during this summer’s transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur are facing stiff competition for David: is he worth fighting for?

David can create a yard of space for himself to shoot. He has proven himself to be a reliable finisher on offense. The Canadian sensation can even create the odd chance for his teammates. He’s also a clean passer.

However, if Tottenham succeed in signing David this summer, only time will tell if he can maintain his fine form in the Premier League. Still, we can expect him to bring more firepower to Tottenham boss Angelos Postkoglu’s attack.

David is capable of earning a regular spot in the north London club’s first team next season. He might even continue his productive partnership with Son Heung-min at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the coming years.

All in all, David is worth fighting for, so Tottenham would be wise to step up their efforts to secure his services before the end of this summer’s transfer window.
